What To Do When You Can't Stop Comparing Yourself To Others On Social Media

Written by Randi Bateman

At one time or another, everyone experiences the impacts of comparison. With the multiple social media outlets, it’s so easy to log in and see someone that looks better, is doing something better, and ultimately is better than you. We scroll and scroll looking for pages that strike our interest, but then reach a place where we measure our lives to someone else’s. So, what happens when the comparison takes hold and it becomes too much to bear?

Before we get to a place where the comparison is hard to destroy and we’ve made up in our mind that their lives are better than ours, remember this: people only display what they want people to see. No matter how cute and artsy someone page is, don’t let that blind you. We all take pictures or type captions that typically shine light on the good, while straying from the bad that everyone experiences. Don’t let it fool you—we are all dealing with something. No one is perfect.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t say all of this to make anyone feel bad for only posting positive things, but I am saying this for the person who scrolls through their feed discrediting their own lives because they see someone else is doing “better” than they are. Darling, please know you are right where you are meant to be. When we compare ourselves, we forget how precious our own journeys are. There is nothing wrong with admiring someone for what they do, but don’t get caught up. Remember your life is full of potential and you have a purpose.

So, when you’re caught up in comparison, think about this: my journey is my journey and my pace is my pace. Take your time and focus on you. You won’t regret it!
