Stop Being So Controlling!

Do you remember being a child? Holding your parents hands as you crossed a street? Being told not to run with scissors? Having to come inside after a long day of playing at a certain time? Being given a bedtime on school nights?Though we had so many restrictions, they were all for our good. We listened to our parents because they were older, wiser, and they provided us with everything. Whether we needed food, a place to sleep, or help with our homework, our parents made sure we were taken care of. The rules were not meant to stop us from having fun. They set rules because they love us and wanted us to be protected.

As we grow older and transition into becoming adults we start to do things our own way. We choose our own clothes, we choose our friends, decide when to do our work, and the list goes on and on. We go from total dependency on our parents to complete independence-- making our own choices and decisions. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with making choices. If you’re making your own choices it makes you think, is God really in control? How much control does He have? If He is not in complete control, then who/what is? A great way to overcome overthinking is to come before God like a child. “I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn't receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it" Mark 10:15.

God wants us to be completely
dependent on him like a child.

He wants to make the decisions for us, giving us the yes and the no. The best part is, God ALWAYS wants the best for us so why not give Him complete control. The concept of the control of God over everything is called the “sovereignty” of God. God’s sovereignty is defined as His complete and total independent control over every creature, event, and circumstance at every moment in history. Subject to none, influenced by none, absolutely independent, God does what He pleases, only as He pleases, always as He pleases. God is in complete control of every molecule in the universe at every moment, and everything that happens is either caused or allowed by Him for His own perfect purposes.

He is continuously, actively running things—ALL things—here and now. But to think He needs our cooperation, our help, or the exercise of our free will to bring His plans to pass puts us in control over Him, which makes us God.Once you stop trying to be the God (or parent) in your own life it will relieve a lot of stress and pressure. God knows what it best. His yes is for the best. His no is for the best. Once you stop carrying that load inside of your own mind your thinking becomes a lot clearer.
